My Sisterlock Birthday 1/12/10
I know I'm late but am soo happy I finally got my sisterlocks installed! Already I feel free already I no longer have to wear a wig, weaves, braids, or chemicals. My sisterlocks were started with one and a half inches of new growth and the majority of the texturizer in my hair was cut off. I wanted to cut off all of the texturizer in my hair however my sisterlock technician recommended that I left a some of it so that I can have a little length in case I wanted to curl it and it would help when it came time to wash it.

New Year; New Me
One thing I wish to accomplish this year, like so many other people, is a healthier me. I plan to accomplish this by changing my diet and throwing in a little exercise. I don't plan to diet the rest of my life however I do plan to gain enough discipline to continue to practice better eating habits. By making better food choices I know I will feel better and it will assist my hair in growing longer and looking healthy.

Why HairFantasy
I am in love with music and one of my favorites is "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. In the song they are speaking about how no one can take away your dreams and how all that you dream come true in your fantasies. One of my dreams has always been to have long hair in its natural state or just period. Now I have tried many different things with my hair (such as the one represented in my picture under "About Me" which I will change once I get my Sisterlocks) and the end result was always frustration or disappointment. With my natural hair I couldn't find a style that would be appropriate for the job environment or that I could easily maintain with my busy schedule. Getting it relaxed always damaged my hair. Keeping it braided was too expensive and resulted in hair loss around my hair line. Weaves and wigs although they made me feel pretty I just didn't feel like "me" and if someone did think it was my hair I was always worried they would find out it wasn't. So for me to actually find something that looks like is the answer to me having long natural hair that I can wear anywhere, is like me finally being set free and my dream or fantasy is coming true just like in the song. So there you have it this is my HairFantasy coming true!

My Shout Out & Thanks
In my research on Sisterlocks I happened across BlaqKofi's blog page. I expected to only gain surface information about Sisterlocks but what I found was much more. Her blog caused me to see the full aspect of what the decision to lock my hair meant, to truly understand that Sisterlocks was not just another hairstyle. I was also inspired by the sisterhood and the support formed between herself the strong positive bloggers posted on her site. I know I run the risk of sounding cheezy but I am a very passionate person and I can't help it so please look passed it. :) These sisters have inspired me to start my own blog... so here I am! If anyone reads this I recommend that they visit BlaqKofi's site and the other sister's posted in her blog list. Just google Sisterlocks-Natural Awakenings I found a wealth of knowledge there. Thank you BlaqKofi and all of the sisters in her blog list you all are truly an inspiration!

My Hair Story short and sweet
I have a good grade of hair. That is to say that it's pretty managable however I don't know what to do with it in its natural state without adding heat or chemicals to it. So what I would do is wear my hair natural for a while. I could get away with wetting it and putting gel in it to keep my curls from frizzing up. After my hair got too long for me to do that I would put a perm on it. My hair doesn't do too well with perms so as usual it would break off really bad in one spot. I thought that if could just find the right beautician or the right relaxer then my hair would grow just fine but that never seemed to be the case so I would end up cutting all my hair off down to the new growth and start off natural all over again. This cycle was begining again for the fourth time when a friend of my mine told me about Sisterlocks. She had seen a woman at the store with them. As soon as I got the chance I was on the internet researching because my friend had made them sound so beautiful and I must say I was not disappointed with what I had found. Shortly after that I made my appointment to begin my Sisterlocks journey.
